AT&T announced to offer mobiletv service from MediaFlo which will operate on two new handsets, the LG Vu and the Samsung Access. This new service allows subscribers to get access to eight channels of live TV plus two exclusive channels but pricing information is still now unavailable until officially launched in May but Verizon is charging $15 a month extra for eight channels of live TV for such this mobile TV service.
MediaFlo has developed networks for mobile television service with Verizon Wireless which is the first wireless provider to work with for more than a year. MediaFlo will increase its coverage to make this mobiletv service available and gain more subscribers. No specific subscriber numbers has been published so far by Verizon for this mobile TV service but the uptake is going slower according to Qualcomm’s CEO, Paul Jacobs, during a speech at the Tech Policy Summit in Hollywood. Some mobile experts question whether people really want to watch TV on cell phones these days.
